Minnesota’s major political parties will hold precinct caucuses February 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM.

At your precinct caucus, you can:

  • Vote your preference for President of the United States

  • Become a delegate to endorsing conventions
  • Elect local party leaders

What specifically happens at the caucuses?

  • Presidential preference ballot. The DFL and Republican Parties will conduct preference ballots on candidates. The DFL Party preference ballot is binding and the Republican Party conducts a non-binding straw poll.
  • Party platform resolutions. You can submit and vote on resolutions that will become part of the party platforms. You will find sample resolutions here. If you don’t speak out for your union and working people of Minnesota who will?

The DFL Party requires a form for all resolutions and you will find the resolutions already on that form on the website. The Republican Party also requires a form; however, they do not give it out until caucus night.

  • Election of delegates to endorsing conventions. Each precinct elects delegates and alternates to party endorsing conventions. As a delegate, you vote on which candidates get the party endorsement.
